Yeah... it didn't look much better the second time either, (must be the cheap wood) so I just slobbed it on and let it dry this time.
I could sand it again then stain it with a lighter brown, the black that's left in the deep parts would look like a deeper wood grain accent... maybe?

Maybe! What the flock? Go for it. If worse comes to worse, you could always fabricate a whole new stock out of some nicer wood...

I was thinkin about that, like you did on yours, but I was maybe thinkin about making a pistol grip for that pump action one below it... What do ya think?

That would be cool. I was thinking about doing a Mare's Leg like Steve McQueen used in Wanted Dead or Alive:

   

The only problem is that there's no easy way to shorten the barrel. Someone with some metal fabrication skills might not have any trouble, though...

Fun idea also...
Might not be that easy, these things are pressed/ rolled steal and not easy to get apart and reassemble streight. I don't know how long the actual barrel is on the Red Ryder and what holds it up inside the outter peice. I do have one to experiment on tho, maybe I'll split it open just to see what's inside.

If I remember correctly, the old ones use to have a cap on the end of the barrel that looked as if it could come off. The new ones aren't like that. I'll have to keep my eye out at the next gun show I go to. There are always old Daisy's for sale.
