Mausers
1936-ish Spanish Mauser, looks like it's been done-over a little. I haven't seen another Mauser with the same kind of stalk.
It was imported by a company called Samco and is now chambered in .308 win.
It's pretty accurate and a fun shooter, we liked it so much that we bought another to sit beside it in the safe.

RE: Mausers
I saw one of those today on the "Used" rack (of course) but I don't remember what it was chambered in or how much it was. It's one of those that catches the eye, then festers within the soul, and sooner or later I'll have to pick one up.

Nice looking gun. Thumbup2

Yep, that's exactly how it went! I spotted one laying on a bench at the range about two years ago and couldn't take my eyes off of it. I had read about Mausers before and knew they were awesome. We spotted this one at the gun show, the guy only wanted 150 bucks for it...

The next one we bought new from Mitchells Mausers, is Serbian (Yugo) made after the K98k. It was made right after WW2, by free people, in a factory that somehow didn't get bombed by the U.S.A.F. The Serbian people decided that if WW3 happened they were going to be ready, so they kept producing and storing this rifle for the future.

Well the future came and it seemed like automatic weapons were more fun to protect your country with than a bunch of old, heavy bolt action rifles, so now I own one... 18

RE: Mausers
Man that's a cool looking rifle. I love those mannelicher stocks. Yours has a nice patina to it. Has it been FULLY converted over to a true 308, or is it still one of those 5.62 or what ever those millemeter sizes that foreign gun manufacturers put on their rifles that works out to a civilian size of 308, but you still have to use the military rounds? If that has a true 98 mauser action, you're one lucky SOB in that's the best/strongest action ever invented. All rifles should have that action--no matter the caliber.

Thanx Del, it is one of those rifles that just grabbed me right by the guts as soon as I laid eyes on it, the show was over for me after we bought it as I just couldn't quit lookin at it (Ok and I didn't have any more money left).
I think it was made .308 win by the importer (Samco), as it is stamped right under the Samco name on the barrel. As far as the action, it is based on the model 1916 M96, small rings type. The Yugo Mauser is the K98 type chambered in 8mm and as you said very stout and has been blatantly copied in some form or another by almost every manufacturer who has made bolt action guns ever since. Hell, our Rem Model 700's bolt looks almost like the same part.

RE: Mausers
I have a Mauser my Great Uncle brought back from WW 2. Has the swastikas on it, Built in 39'. It's chambered for 8mm. Some time back in the 50's or 60's somebody had it customized. Monte Carlo stock, machine work on the bolt, Redfield peep sight. That of course dropped the value of the gun, but back then, who knew. The thing kicks like a mule, took it deer hunting in W.V. back in 89'. Took a front leg clean off a deer when the bullet exited the other side.

Working on the pics. Got them in photobucket, can't get them on here. Stupid computers. I thought these things were suppose to make life easier, half the time I want to put a .45 through the damn thing.

Yeah, these computers baffle the shit outta me too, I'm a very slow learner...
If you have gotten your pictures into photobucket, then you are almost there. In photobucket take your mouse and put the cursor over the picture you want to post and a list will pop down beneath it. Then move your cursor down to the 4th option in the list, the IMG Code. Left mouse click and that option will turn blue, then right mouse click the blue option, then left click the word copy from pop-up box.
Now go to the post you want to add a picture to and in the field where you type, right click and paste. You will then see a funky sentence in the field that starts and ends with [IMG] [/IMG], you should see your picture after pushing the Post Reply button.
Good luck

The Yugo:

RE: Mausers
That Samco stamping -- could it possibly be SARCO? They are an importer, late of NJ, but recently moved to Easton, PA. They have 6-8 page adds in every issue of Shotgun News.
