I think the Browning Buckmark would be a very good candidate.
Next, I would look at the Ruger MarkIII.

However it depends on the type of competition you go into, what types of gun's that are allowed, and I'm not qualified to answer this in that I don't do competitions, unless it's with myself or a couple friends, just informally.
