RE: Mauser 4mm
I know those old Mauser rifles have quite the following on the curio/relic circuit, and most are around that $100 to $200 price, depending on model/condition, BUT are you sure it's in 4mm and not 5mm? I don't know of any "real" firearms in this caliber, unless it's a bolt-actuated spring, pellet gun to get the troups that are unfamiliar with firearms used to handling a firearm before letting them handle/operate a real weapon. I would like to see some pictures of this model. If it is in 4mm, you'll never find any ammo for it. Even 5mm caliber, is near impossible to find ammo. The newest version of 5mm is now called 17HMR or 17HM2 and IS NOT interchangable.

RE: Mauser 4mm
Hi Del,
I will get a picture of this rifle and post it this weekend. Yes it is a 4mm, imprinted on the barrel of the gun. It is an interesting piece of history. Thank you for your interest! Check back for the pictures |

Here is a pic of the ammo for the gun. I have researched it too and have not found a whole lot on it.

RE: Mauser 4mm
Thanks for sharing. That is a nice piece of history, and being a rimfire, probably the smallest caliber ever built without being a BB/Pellet gun. Too bad you can't find anymore ammo for it. Just do some good striping/cleaning of the gun and it'll be something that'll last longer than all of us.
Del Cheri, I found some interesting info about your 4mm. It's used for indoor training purposes, and is considered as ammo by BATF here in U.S., but in Germany and other places it's considered as NOT ammo, and is more on the likes of pellet ammo. It's velocity(if that can be said) is around 935fps to 975fps. It's a basic "greenhorn" training rifle for those who don't know how to handle a weapon. There's pellet rifles with more velocity than this round. Look on the Web for a Walther PPK-L video. It has very informative info on the conversion of the Walther, but it deals with the 4mm and is very neat and even has a 4mm ammo can. Pretty cool stuff. Del |
